This vacancy is for a GS - 0028 - 9, Environmental Protection Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, CG ACADEMY FACILITIES ENGINEERING BRANCH in NEW LONDON, Connecticut.

  • You will serve as a/an Environmental Protection Specialist and be responsible for as the primary oil and hazardous materials spill and emergency response manager for the CGA. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Evaluating and modifying Academy-wide policies and procedures relative to emergency preparedness and spill response. Writing and maintaining the CGA Spill Response Procedures, the RCRA Contingency Plan and Spill Prevention, Control and and Countermeasure Plan. Maintaining appropriate supply of response equipment. Participating in spill response, i.e., assesses risk, determines appropriate response actions, properly containerizes and disposes of spill response materials; and prepares paperwork to document spills. Making written and verbal notifications to appropriate federal, state and local agencies.
