Game Warden job description

Fish and game wardens are a small occupation, 6,200 jobs in 2025, and BLS projects it to shrink by about 6 percent through 2035 with roughly 500 openings a year, which is why these postings draw crowds. Wardens enforce fishing, hunting, and boating laws: patrolling hunting and fishing areas, running search and rescue operations, investigating complaints and accidents, and teaching the public the rules of the outdoors. They are sworn officers, and BLS says candidates generally attend a training academy covering state and constitutional law, civil rights, ethics, patrol, firearms, self defense, and first aid. Median pay reached $74,060 for May 2025. Maine, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Hawaii carry the highest concentration of the job.
