Camp Counselor job description

Camp counselor work is seasonal by design. BLS files it under recreation workers, an occupation of 346,900 as of 2025 where many positions are part time, seasonal, or irregular, and it says plainly that camp counselors often work evenings, weekends, or summers only. The job organizes and runs group activities, arts, crafts, sports, music, and outdoor programs, and at an overnight camp it means living alongside the participants. Local government employs 32 percent of recreation workers. May 2025 pay came to $17.58 an hour in the middle, or $36,560 a year, across a reported $27,600 to $50,410. BLS records a high injury rate here, mostly slips, falls, and overexertion.
