Maine splits its outdoors across four departments. Environmental Protection restores natural resources and enforces the state's environmental laws. Inland Fisheries and Wildlife was established to keep wildlife and aquatic resources maintained and perpetuated for their intrinsic and ecological values. Marine Resources runs commercial and non-commercial marine licensing, aquaculture and wetlands permit review, and marine research. Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is the combined support center for land-based natural resource interests, from protecting the food we eat to stopping forest fires.
Four departments hold the outdoor work: Environmental Protection, Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Marine Resources, and Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. Between them that covers wildlife and aquatic resource management, marine licensing and aquaculture, forestry and fire, and environmental enforcement.
